The National Public Health Information Coalition's Awards for Excellence in Public Health Communications (NPHIC) program allows members an opportunity to share their best communication products, as well as to gain fresh ideas from others. The awards also help to bring recognition to the important job public health agencies do every day by providing important health messages to the public. “As a recipient of a NPHIC award, your department has been designated by an independent panel of judges at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication (University of Georgia - home of the prestigious Peabody Awards) as among the year’s best in public health communication,” stated NPHIC President William Furney.
The National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC) Awards of Excellence in Public Health Communications winners were announced, during the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Conference on Health Communication, Marketing and Media conference.“The Ottawa County Department of Public Health won seven times– three Golds and four Silvers. No competitor had a higher winning percentage; none was even close. And no local health department has ever won so many awards in a single year,” said Bill Walker, NPHIC Emergency Communications Project Director. Read the full article (page 7) http://bit.ly/22waSVH. Grady College faculty members, the Athens Health Network’s executive director and a senior communications specialist at the CDC judged more than 275 entries; submitted by public health officials, journalists and media relation agencies from around the nation. Judging criteria included quality of writing, effective use of graphics, review of hard copy materials and supporting documents, along with the overall impact and results of each project.
“This is a great opportunity to surface and recognize the best work in public health on the communications front,” commented Glen Nowak, director of Grady College’s Center for Health and Risk Communication. Nowak also said involvement from the college provides a great resource that can be used as teaching aids of examples of how health departments are handling health issues through communications.
Model the Way - “We are working with Professor Basow, University of Kansas, and his J640 Strategic Campaigns capstone class and are visiting other communities with outstanding programs. We recently returned from our first site visit at the National Association of City and County Health Officials offices, in Washington D.C., where the good work you are doing was mentioned frequently. Because of your leadership and organizational reputation, we would like to add OCDPH to our list of visits to learn best practices when it comes to branding and marketing public health,” said Dan Partridge, Director of the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department in Kansas.

2015 Ottawa County Community Health Needs Assessment
www.miOttawa.org/2015CHNA The purpose of the Ottawa County Community Health Needs Assessment is to gather required information so we can effectively plan the vital work of maintaining and improving health. Multiple perspectives from stakeholders, health care professionals, public health officials, community agencies and residents on health needs can lead to re-conceptualizing a problem or a prospective intervention; or it may indicate the advisability of continuing or abandoning current programs. Why Brand?
http://bit.ly/ZnWPGw Your Brand - Your Promise A driving force behind reaching your community. A brand is about creating an experience. More directly, it's the public’s first impression of your organization. Your brand is more than a name and a recognizable logo. It evokes a memory or an emotion that grabs people’s attention. Your brand is your organization’s personality and identity. Every organization has an identity, whether it is intended or not. If we do not shape our identities, others will. Brand Guidelines |
